Oh Manda, darling, you know lack of a comment space will not deter me from stating my opinion, especially when it comes to music. You have much to learn, grasshopper.
You knew it would come.
First I will agree with you, to an extent.
Music can be dance. Funky beats and crazy lyrics. Music, in my opinion, is simply whatever you want it to be. There are different types because there are different people. We don't need to bash those [artists or fans] who like different types than we do.
And I shall now state the rest of my opinion. An opinion that doesn't entire agree with your's, though realizes that we are both entitled to them.
There are the BeeGees and there are the Beatles. Which one made more of a mark on history? Setting personal preferences aside, they were both great artists, but the one with the better lyrics and more personal songs made it bigger, whereas the dance beats fell aside.
That, my friend, is what I think music is. Personal. I'm not saying it's some deep, brooding, depressing hole of anguish, suffering, pain, and unworthy annoyances, no; it's personal. It's real.
Music is, should be, one's outlook on life. Whether it be from personal situations, the way you view something or just your personal opinion on something, [take P!nk's Dear Mr. President.] music is real.
A dance remix without any emotion whatsoever is simply sound.
Not that I'm saying there's anything the least bit wrong with that.

Ah, Meg. You see, grasshopper is one step ahead in that grasshopper anticipated your reaction and grasshopper already has a reply contemplated and ready ^^. You're just that predictable.
Grasshopper knows all.
(Can you tell I'm enjoying my grasshopper title?)
I'm not saying music shouldn't be personal. Go back and read my post. I find nothing wrong with something you can RELATE to, but a 'song' with no melody, no instrumentals worth listening to ... well, that's just a rant with a few drum taps. It's like Greenday. Sure, you can relate to their music, and sometimes they're fun to listen to. But in my opinion, a lot (not ALL, but a lot) of their stuff is not 'real' music, whatever that is. It's just blindly rebellious ranting.
Sound can be much more powerful than words. It's like using symbolism in a story instead of outright SAYING what you mean. The thing about a beat, instrumentals, is that it can be interpreted in 1,001 different ways. It means something else to everyone, and only you can define it.
And then there are those singers/bands, such as Vanessa Carlton and Relient K who nail both the instrumentals AND the lyrics ... have you ever even listened to Vanessa Carlton, besides her insanely popular Thousand Miles and Ordinary Day? You might just learn something.
And who cares who left a bigger mark? I certainly don't. The world's opinions never etch any influence on me. I like who I like because I like em. I don't care if society enjoyed the Beatles more than the BeeGees. I enjoy the BeeGees. They own the Beatles. Period.
We are officially proof that total and complete opposites can be the best of friends. xD
Well, Grasshopper, I read your post loud and clear, thank you very much. It is GREEN DAY not, 'greenday'. It isn't one word. Please, know what you are talking about before going and shooting off your mouth.
In any case, if you had listened to more than 5 songs of their's, you would realize they are not just rebellious ranting.
Go listen to a few songs from the Casualties.
THEN go tell me that it's Green Day who isn't 'real' music.
That's what I'm trying to say about music, but you refuse to hear it.
I like both Vanessa Carlton and Reliant K. And yes, I've heard more than 'A Thousand Miles' from her, and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been' from them. I'm not saying stuff like Paramore are the best band ever. Every song sounds the same and the lyrics aren't different. Green Day, however isn't that, if you would take the time to realize that.I don't give a dang if you say "a lot, not ALL". It makes zero difference on the overall point.
-.-
The Beatles beat the crap out of the BeeGees, Manda. Honestly, how much have you listened to them? -snort- tell me to listen to Vanessa Carlton when you think the BeeGees are better than the Beatles.
-shakes head-
BUT
It's your opinion. You're entitled to it, Grasshopper.
