So, it's a cover of the cover.
The Smoking Popes originally did it, then Bayside, and now this dude has his version of the Bayside cover...
And so wonderfully titled, the song is called 'Megan'.
Whooo.
In any case, I've been listening to this one for three days, more or less, and I've gotten rather addicted.
Guy's pretty nice, too, which helps.
So yeah, go check it out.

I have never loved my name so much

I have decided on my theme song
Can't help if I space in a daze,
My eyes tune out the other way,
I may switch off and go in a daydream,
In this head my thoughts are deep,
But sometimes I can't even speak,
Would someone be and not pretend?
I'm off again in my world
So, Avril Lavigne's My World is now my theme song.
Go listen to it and tell me every word isn't me.
Well, aside from the bit about growing up in Nepanee.
Slightly off, there.
Other than that, it's me.
My World by Avril Lavigne

Happy Earth Day, kiddies
Oh yes, today, today is Earth Day.
So since I'm already way ahead of you all on the 'green' thing, I suggest you go out and change a light bulb or something.

The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl
By Barry Lyga.
Great book, really. Officially one of my favorites.
And now, just for the heck of it, some of my favorite quotes from the book.
_____________________
"People suck. Period. They're stupid and clueless and when you tell them that they're stupid and clueless, they just get pissed off because they know it's the truth and they can't be bothered to change it."
"I can't give you anything. There's nothing in your file for medicine."
I don't care. Give me something. Give me an aspirin or a Tylenol or a goddamn Midol just put something in my body that has a chance in hell of dimming the bright, hard light of the sun that has blossomed inside my brain.
[Oh, the light of a migraine. Enough to ask for a Midol.]
"Smoke?"
"No, thanks."
"Goody two-shoes."
"Nothing goody two-shoes about it. I just have an allergic reaction to lung cancer. Gives me tumors."
______________________________________
And that's just some, but I can't find any others.
So yeah.
The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl by Barry Lyga.
Read it.

In The News
So I'm going to try to cover a tiny bit of everything, really quickly here.
Sports:
Danica Patrick won her first race this week, in Japan. She became the first woman to win a NASCAR race in History.
It's about time. Go Danica.
Schools:
So by now, everyone's heard of that horrific YouTube video of a bunch of teenage girls luring another girl to their house, beating her and taping it. Then posting it online. Disgusting. But, now, there has been another one. Girls again, from ages 12-14, posted a video to YouTube. They evidently set it up so the victim threw the first punch.
Yeah. Say hi to juvie.
Politics:
Ahhhhhh. I am officially stoked that I'm not old enough to vote.
Sounds strange, doesn't it?
I would no doubt be voting for Ralph Nadar, as no one else is really worth the vote anymore.
Clinton's health care plan is still getting me ticked off, while Obama keeps saying 'change.' Yes, man, we get it. 'change, change, change, change,' but change what exactly? He gives very few plans apart from the fact that 'we need change'. How about telling us how you would give us that change? Eh? But no. And that's apart from the fact that the guy's friends with an unrepentant terrorist, and all the other bull about every little thing.
And that's just the Democrats. I'm not even going to the Republicans, since I see no point.
We get another Rep. in office, and we are officially screwed.
And that's that.

And....I'm in
So, there's this high school journalism workshop over the summer that I applied to. It's for two weeks, like an hour away, for 36 students across the state. Evidently only 50 or so applied, but I, along with my friend Raven, got in.
Go us.
-Does the wave-
So it's in June, but I'm kind of excited.
Ayup.
More on this when I find anything else out.

Boat music, anyone?
Ah, only if it's my kind of boat music.
So, while we were out on the lake on Sunday, we found out the boat had a radio.
Yayyy.
And we had figured out before that there is a station where we were staying that is near identical to the one I listen to at home. Which was cool.
So we played that while we were in the boat.
And the boat radio decided to be extra nice and play songs I liked.
Songs I really really really liked.
Like....
Falling Down - Atreyu
Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace
The Pretender - The Foo Fighters
Come Out And Play - The Offspring
Voodoo - Godsmack
Beg To Differ - Linkin Park
Yay radio.

Ooh vacation time
Chyea.
So I'm gone. Leaving tomorrow aaaand stuff.
April 14th to April 21st.
Then I return. And you'll have missed me greatly.
Or you should have.
Hmph
So yeah, just updating so you don't think I've abandoned my poor useless blog.
Nah, not really useless. Great source of ranting.
Check you later, people of cyberspace and random planets.

Miley Cyrus is officially deemed...
Madame slut-a-thon.
What the hell?
I'm actually watching American Idol, that Idol Gives Back thing. [Only way I can stay up later.]
She performed once, a song that sucked, and was ALMOST decent.
Then she sang "See You Again". The only song of her's that I thought was actually tolerable. And she completely and totally destroyed it.
From the unneeded countdown [screaming 1 2 3 4 half-way through the song where it wasn't needed], the 'dancing' [without a doubt, the girl is the next Britney Spears] and for the sake of all that is good that voice. Please, if you're going to go thinking you're so amazing, at least have a voice.
Singing lessons, girl. It's not all in genetics.
Posted by Meg at 6:36 PM 2 comments
Let the countdown begin
4 days, not counting today and not counting Monday.
Since we're leaving 4-5 a.m. Gah. I'm going to have to sleep in the car.
Which will be difficult considering I'll be between Rae and Jax, in Dad's truck. There is zero sleeping there. -Sigh-
This vacation had better be worth it. Luckily, I'm used to not really sleeping much. Whoo.
AH
My dog's sniffing my leg. Freak.
I'm downloading i-tunes.
Yayy.
It's taking forever and my computer's being retarded.
Well, no, not my computer. Just the internet connection, since Rae's and Jax's are doing the same thing.
Damned Verizon.
And there's a list of songs I want from i-tunes,
But I can only get 8.
We got a 25 dollar gift card at the store, and all three of us are splitting it.
Rae and I each get 8, Jax gets 9. [Since of course, she's the one who lost her MP3 player and just got a new i-pod, so she's the one who gets the extra song. Oh, right, yeah.]
Anyhow, my list:
Black Cat - Mayday Parade
Metro - The Vincent Black Shadow
All Over You - LIVE
Crawling In The Dark - Hoobastank
100 Years - Five For Fighting
Live Fast - Pensive
Enter Sandman - Metallica
To Be Loved - Papa Roach
A Little's Enough - Angels & Airwaves
He Wasn't - Avril Lavigne
Going Under - Evanescence
All These Things I Hate - Bullet For My Valentine
Fat Lip - Sum 41
Miss Murder - AFI
Warning - Green Day
Murdered In The Mosh - Son Of Dork
Sorry's Not Good Enough - McFly
Blackbird - The Beatles
Falling Down - Atreyu
Homemade Valentine - Children 18:3
Lithium - Nirvana
Liar - Taking Back Sunday
Lips Like Morphine - Kill Hannah
Heart Shaped Glasses - Marilyn Manson [sorry Abbs, haha]
So yeah.
Wish me luck picking 8 songs out of those.
It'll be near impossible.
So, anyone who'd like to add their opinions, feel free to comment.
I could use the suggestions.
Also got my hair cut.
It's different. Very different.
I think I like it.

Can you hear me now?
Oh Manda, darling, you know lack of a comment space will not deter me from stating my opinion, especially when it comes to music. You have much to learn, grasshopper.
You knew it would come.
First I will agree with you, to an extent.
Music can be dance. Funky beats and crazy lyrics. Music, in my opinion, is simply whatever you want it to be. There are different types because there are different people. We don't need to bash those [artists or fans] who like different types than we do.
And I shall now state the rest of my opinion. An opinion that doesn't entire agree with your's, though realizes that we are both entitled to them.
There are the BeeGees and there are the Beatles. Which one made more of a mark on history? Setting personal preferences aside, they were both great artists, but the one with the better lyrics and more personal songs made it bigger, whereas the dance beats fell aside.
That, my friend, is what I think music is. Personal. I'm not saying it's some deep, brooding, depressing hole of anguish, suffering, pain, and unworthy annoyances, no; it's personal. It's real.
Music is, should be, one's outlook on life. Whether it be from personal situations, the way you view something or just your personal opinion on something, [take P!nk's Dear Mr. President.] music is real.
A dance remix without any emotion whatsoever is simply sound.
Not that I'm saying there's anything the least bit wrong with that.

I love quotes.
But honestly, who doesn't? Come on.
"I will not eat oysters. I want my food dead. Not sick. Not wounded. Dead."
-Woody Allen
"School is practice for the future. Practice makes perfect, but nobody's perfect, so why practice?"
-Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day
"Nobody's perfect. I am perfectly flawed."
-Amy Lee, Evanescence
"Our doubts are traitors,
And make us lose the good we oft might win,
By fearing to attempt."
-William Shakespeare
Measure For Measure
I. iv
"For nothing worthe proving
Can be proven
Nor yet disproven;
Wherefore thou be wise,
Cleave ever to the sunnier side of
Doubt."
-Alfred, Lord Tennyson
The Ancient Sage
I:66
"I think everyone is entitled to
Our opinion."
-Tré Cool, Green Day
"But love is blind,
And lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit."
-William Shakespeare

In The News [Er, sports.]
So yeah. Good stuff today.
Yankees beat the Rays [I still think they should have kept the 'Devil Ray's and green uniform, but -shrugs- they didn't ask my opinion.] 2-0. Not the best game. Hard when you like both teams.
And the fact that Mariano Riviera's song was Enter Sandman by Metallica, that just made the whole thing a hell of a lot better.
And to the races...
Who won the NASCAR race today...I do not know, as of yet. Didn't watch all of that one.
However, I did watch the street race in St. Petersburg Fl. That wasn't bad. 19 year old Grahm Rahal won it. Youngest one ever to win his first race the first time out. He didn't get to race last week. So yayy for him.
Bummer for Andretti Green Racing. Danica Patrick finished 10th, Marco Andretti didn't finish. Both drivers stalled at least once in the race. Tony Kanaan however, finished 3rd.
Helio Castroneves [well, you'd know him if you're one of the Dancing With The Stars junkies. He won that competition last season.] finished 2nd.

Hate-fest time!
Yes Manda, I just stole your subject line.
You'll get over it.
I officially hate auto-start playlists.
Got nothing against them if I can turn it on when I want to.
I play music 24/7, and when I go to certain web pages, or blogs *cough* it interrupts.
It's infuriating.
I'm sorry, but when you interrupt Metallica with some crazy random dance music, I tend to get a little ticked.
And then the damned things are so hidden that you can't even find them to turn 'em off.
Gah.

Let's just clear a few things up, shall we?
I think it's about time.
So, punk, emo, goth. They're all the same thing, right? Evidently, to most people they are.
Are they? Ah no.
I could go on one of my never-ending, strongly-worded rants about it, but I think to start I shall just give you the meanings I could find using Dictionary.com
Punk
a style or movement characterized by the adoption of aggressively unconventional and often bizarre or shocking clothing, hairstyles, makeup, etc., and the defiance of social norms of behavior, usually associated with punk rock musicians and fans.
Emo
Emotion[s]
Emotional [music genre]
Goth
A style of rock music, noted especially for somber or ethereal tones and lugubrious lyrics. A performer or follower of this style of music.
Got it now?
Please, please stop calling the punks emo and the emos punk.
PureVolume annoys me the most.
Motion City Soundtrack
Paramore
McFly
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Something Corporate
The Used
Reliant K
Cartel
Plain White T's
All Time Low
The Starting Line
Those are all bands that are categorized as 'punk' or 'pop punk' on PureVolume. Please, whoever's posting these, STOP.
They are not punk. None of them are any type of punk, nor will they ever be any type of punk.
I cracked up when I saw a few of them, er, most of them were listed 'punk'.
I mean, come on.
Rancid, The Sex Pistols, and Green Day, [at a stretch], are punk.
Not the ones listed above.
Don't get me wrong, I like these bands. But in no way shape or form are any of them punk.
Then there's emo.
Ooooooh for God's sake stop listing every freaking band as 'emo'.
Three Days Grace is not emo because of Animal I Have Become.
Real emo music is like Motion City Soundtrack, if anyone could get that through their thick skulls.
Goth? Goth can pretty much be summed up as Evanescence, if you go for gothic pop.
It's seriously like the great debate.
Don't even try it or I swear I will have your head. >_<
...Virtually.
And then there's the issue of screamo/metal/hard rock music.
Fall Out Boy, Toby Mac, Family Force 5, My Chemical Romance, etc...?
Not only are they not real rock, but none of them are screamo/metal/or hard rock, either.
MCR are posers, as are Fall Out Boy. I'm not saying they're terrible, I like a few songs here and there, but all in all? Yeah.
You want real screamo/metal music? Go listen to Bullet For My Valentine. Marilyn Manson. Demon Hunter. Avenged Sevenfold.
Real rock? Go listen to Metallica, Alice In Chains, Atreyu.
Seriously people.
Go to the bookstore and check out the music section for a few hours. It'll do you good.

I just realized something.
For all my talk of 'don't worry about what you can't change',
I'm actually fairly cynical, myself.
Huh.
Like everyone else didn't already know that. Well, besides my mother of course.
I love her, but the woman only hears what she wants to hear.
I can't imagine anyone mentioning her nice little gothic punk daughter. "Who? Meg? Aw Meg's a little ray of sunshine" and blah blah blah.
In any case, that's not the point.
My point, is someone goes "ahh you live in the sunshine state, I'm so jealous."
I go "It's also the lighting capital of the world."
I'm sarcastic and snarky. Sorry if you don't like that, it's just me.
Oooh.
Did I mention that I...no I don't believe I did.
So since I got the Guns N' Roses CD, I was evidently a little too inspired yesterday.
Took out my paint can and got to work on this hideous yet helpful brown bureau. Black knobs, spider webs and criss-cross patterns and more of my favorite bands, since I'm starting to run out of room on the walls and floor.
What did my parents say when I asked if I could do it?
..Well, technically I didn't ask. Didn't even think about it, just got straight to it.
What did they say when they saw it?
...They haven't yet. Though my youngest sister has. So yeah, not too much of an audience. Yet.
Though, in my defense, I did make sure the paint would wash off before I really got into it, just in case we'd ever...need to have it back to it's former boringness.
"Better to ask forgiveness than permission."
So I checked but I didn't ask.
Bite me.

Oh, by the way...
Happy April.
Dang. Already April. Time flies.
Week and 5 days until vacaaaaaation time. -Excited-
Can't wait. Yep.
Have fun missing me. You know you will.
You should, as I'm really not worth missing, but you will.
Simply because I'm awesome like that.
Aha.

"15 there's still time for you, time to buy and time to lose..."
Well well well.
Target officially equals love.
Yeahhh.
Got Guns N' Roses Greatest Hits CD yesterday.
It's been on my CD player non-stop.
Those Slash guitar solos just never get old.
And now this song, 100 Years by Five For Fighting.
Absolutely brilliant. One of my favorite songs ever.
You know you've heard it. How could you disagree?
"I'm 99 for a moment, time for just another moment, and I'm just dreaming, counting the ways to where you are..."
I have got to learn to play the piano.
